Starting out on this project, I knew I wanted to do something to do with studio photography since I didn't have the chance to do that for my component 1. I began thinking of initial ideas and it became very clear I would be exploring ideas of identity and what truly what makes us up. I found that overlapping images would be a good means for me to express that, tapping into mainly surrealist photographers like Dora Maar and Jerry Uelsmann.

​After sketching out general ideas on what I wanted, I then started noting down requirements on what I needed to capture (how many people I would need, what kind of photos I would need to take etc) with the drawings being a general blueprint for the photos. Obviously, I did not end up following through with all these ideas whether that be from scheduling issues, equipment limits or just not feeling the vision after some time, but these plans and research were essential to developing the full ideas later on.
